Today we continued learning about the attributes of plane shapes. We answered a question in our math journals about identifying a shape with four equal sides. We learned “how to draw a square using rulers.” (Jadine) This began to answer Christopher’s Need to Know which was, “How do we draw the shapes?”
After math journals, we talked about our centers for the week. One center was “to glue shapes on the paper in the right spot.” (Christian) The shapes we focused on were, “triangles, rectangles, squares, and circles.” (Chris B.) Another center was to use pattern blocks to make a picture and count how many of each shape were used to make the picture. “I made a robot. I used 2 squares, 2 rhombuses, 2 diamonds, and 2 hexagons.” (Pedro) The last center was to “count the corners of shapes and add or subtract with another shape.” (Christopher)
During PBL we “went to take pictures around the school of all of the shapes.” (Paola) We took pictures “in the classroom, in the office, in the cafeteria, in the upper grade wing, and on the playground with our iPads.” (Mozes) Tomorrow we will print the pictures and add them to our shape chart.
