Yesterday, students were given two informal assessments during math. One assessment asked students to match the picture of a shape to the name of the shape. On this assessment the class average was 96%. The 2nd assessment involved students sorting shapes into categories based on how many lines the shape had. 99% was the average on this assessment. Way to go A2! “The tests were kind of easy.” (Yaritza) “We’ve learned a lot about 2-D shapes.” (Tatiana)
This morning “we finished our shape monster.” (Ximena) “We put tally marks” (Christopher) “to show how many of each shape we had.” (Jay) Then, “we wrote about our shape monsters.” (Pedro) “I think it was fun.” (Anahi)
During math, we worked in our math journals and “drew a house out of a square and a triangle.” (Giovanny)
After lunch “we used toothpicks and marshmallows to make a square, a rectangle, and a triangle.” (Ximena) “We glued our shapes onto our papers.” (Anthony) “We counted the sides and vertices of the 3 shapes.” (Jay) “It was awesome!” (Liz)
Next week we’ll switch our focus to dividing plane shapes into equal shares. We’ll review the Driving Question, Need to Knows, and Vocabulary and will add any questions or additional vocabulary words that come up during our discussions.
