It’s a Geometric World, 1st grade project (Day 14) by Ms. Trowbridge’s First Graders

“Today in math we used pattern blocks (trapezoids, triangles, and rhombuses) to make a hexagon caterpillar.” (Jadine)  “”Two trapezoids make a hexagon.”  (Yaritza)  “Six triangles make a hexagon.”  (Jimena)  “Three rhombuses make a hexagon.” (Christopher)  I liked this because we got to use pattern blocks.”  (Giovanny)  “It was fun.”  (Christian)  We talked about how this is related to fractions and equal shares.  “We used 12 shapes altogether to make the caterpillar.”  (Ximena)  “We wrote fractions for the shapes we used.”  (Paola)  For example, “we used trapezoids to make a hexagon and the fraction was 2/12.” (Yartiza)

“We painted our leprechaun traps.  Some people painted it green.  Some people painted it yellow.”  (Jay)  “Tomorrow we’re going to keep decorating our leprechaun traps.”  (Mozes)
