“Today we started to learn about 3-D shapes, like spheres, cubes, and rectangular prisms.” (Yaritza) We got to see foam shapes like a sphere, cone, cube, rectangular prism, and a cylinder.” (Jadine) We started new math centers this week that focus on 3-D shapes. In math centers we did a “3-D shape sort” (Yaritza), a “3-D shape hunt around the classroom” (Pedro), “counting faces, vertices, and edges of different shapes” (Ximena), and a center where “we made a 3-D shape book.” (Giovanny)
During PBL we talked about “what 3-D meant and looked at different 3-D shapes.” (Pedro) We started to “make a 3-D chart.” (Jimena) We reviewed our Driving Question, Need to Knows, and vocabulary words. We decided “we needed to add more questions to our Need to Knows.” (Paola) We added, “How do we draw curved shapes?” (Yaritza) “How can we build things with 3-D shapes?” (Giovanny), “How many shapes are there?” (Jadine) “How can we cut shapes to make equal parts?” (Paola)
Tomorrow we will continue to work on our 3-D chart and students will be bringing 3-D items from home to add to the chart.
