It’s a Geometric World, 1st grade project (Day 17) by Ms. Trowbridge’s First Graders

During math today, we continued work in our math centers.

At the beginning of PBL, “Ms. Trowbridge read us a poem about 3-D shapes.”  (Giovanny)  “We talked about the three parts of 3-D shapes.  They are edges, vertices, and faces.”  (Ximena)  We counted the vertices, edges, and faces of the shapes on the poster.”  (Tatiana)

“Ms. Trowbridge had a bag of 3-D shape pictures, then she called names and we decided under which figure the shape should go.”  (Jadine)  For example, “there was a picture of an orange, a volcano, a mountain, earth, a jar of jelly, and a book.”  (Johana)
One of our deliverables for this project is to build a monster or animals using 3-D shapes.  Today students, “practiced building our monsters or animals.”  (Yaritza)  Building of the animals will start tomorrow.  “I’m excited to make a monster.”  (Jay)  “I feel good about building a shape monster.”  (Pedro)
