Today, third grade students were given the challenge to build a prototype using design thinking for solving a problem from the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff. In order to complete this challenge, the children needed to first empathize with a character from the story to determine the character’s problem. Using their 21st century skills, students collaborated to determine the problems, brainstormed and developed possible solutions or prototypes, and presented their finished creations for feedback.

In the story,  The Three Billy Goats Gruff,  there is a small goat, a medium goat, and a large goat who wish to cross a bridge guarded by a troll. The small and medium goats successfully cross the bridge by telling the troll to wait and eat the bigger goat that is behind them.
